Shoulder Ride
Originally uploaded by The Gulde Family.

As you can see here, Francis enjoys the occasional ride on her daddy’s shoulders. This picture was taken right after Jensen got married. Francis and I were waiting while Sally was taking pictures.

Ilona Mitrius took all of the pictures in this set. She emailed them to me, but I don’t think she’ll mind me putting them here. Thanks Ilona.

Naked Bootleg

Coach Nevad jr.

This is Nathan, son of our friends Dave and Carrie. Dave tells us that this picture was a Fathers’ Day gift to him from Carrie and Nathan. Dave and Matt played high school football together, and Dave is now fulfilling Matt’s dream of coaching a high school team.

Looks like Nathan is following in Dave’s footsteps. I just hope he doesn’t start a nude coaching trend. Or if he does, please, please don’t let Charlie Weis jump on the bandwagon.

I have the very distinct pleasure of showing you guys a couple of photos of Amy and Steve’s new son, Benjamin William Bassett!

I stopped by the hospital this evening and got these two shots of sweet little Ben and his parents. Amy asked me to pass them along.

Ben decided to finally join us Monday night (after making us wait 2 weeks longer than expected!). Ben arrived weighing 8lbs 2oz (I think it’s 2oz?) and measuring a whopping 22.5″ long! He’s got cute little giant hands and feet with all 10 fingers and toes. He couldn’t be more adorable. He truly is a beautiful baby.

Mom and Dad and baby are all doing great. I think they are just exhausted and ready to GO HOME!

Stick it.

Matt blogged about the wedding last night and I like this photo better. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So… I thought I’d post it. I mean don’t get me wrong, I like the present photo and all… I just… I don’t know… I get a little smile one my face when I see this one. Weddings are fun.

Matt - Stick it?

June 22, 2005 - 10:17 pm

Sally - By "Stick it." I just was refering to gettin' married. Like "Gettin' Hitched" or whatever…

You so artfully coined a new term of marriage/endearment, my love. Stick fast like crazy glue kind of love…

Matt and Sally.
True love always.
Stickin' it forever.

June 23, 2005 - 2:21 pm

Matt - Ok, but how about "Matt and Sally. True love always. Stickin' fast forever." ?

"Stick it" has other connotations that are, um, awkward.

June 23, 2005 - 4:38 pm

Sally - I didn't say stickin' FAST… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, get your mind out of the gutter Gulde…and stop taking me with you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jensen Wedding

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

This weekend Dan Jensen cleaved unto Andrea Reade. Dictionary.com tells me that the word “cleave” comes from the Middle English “cleven,” which in turns comes from the Old English “cleofian.” The relevant definitions for the modern word are as follows:

1. To adhere, cling, or stick fast.

2. To be faithful: cleave to one’s principles.

I don’t know what word was in the original Genesis text, but I think cleave works pretty well. Three years into my own marriage, I especially like the words in the first part of the definition: “adhere, cling, stick fast.”

To cleave, then, is to be like crazy glue. This reveals a deep truth about marriage. You glue things together that might otherwise come apart. You promise in marriage to stick fast to each other – even though you will sometimes feel like running far away.

Sally, Francis, and I flew out to California to watch Dan and Andrea promise to stick fast to each other. We had a great time. Click on the picture or the title to see a lot of pictures from the weekend.

Also, wherever you are when you read this, take a moment to raise a glass to this happy couple and join in this belated toast. Cheers.

And if you don’t have a drink handy, go buy them something from their registry.
